Wedding Photographer Deletes Pictures After Being Denied Food.
I admit when I saw the headline my first thought was “that was petty.” Then I read the whole story… well my thoughts didn’t change much but it did give some context and there is a lot here. Basically a friend of the couple who is not a professional wedding photographer agreed to take pictures at their friends’ wedding for $250. Apparently this was a 10+ hour event in the heat and the photographer friend asked for food and water and the couple said “NO!” So the friend photographer erased all the pictures they had taken. Ouch. I mean are these people really that great of friends? How do you…

Wedding Shows: Why You Won’t Find The PreNup Princess or Seattle Wedding Lawyer There
5 or so years ago I was invited to participate in a wedding show. As the Seattle Wedding Lawyer and PreNup Princess I have often been invited but just had never done it. This was going to be a small event and I knew the coordinator so I figured now would as good a time as any to give it a try. I always turned down the invites in the past because while what I do focuses on weddings, it is not wedding show material. No one wants to think about wedding contracts, finances, divorce at a wedding show. But, maybe, just maybe I was wrong so off I went.…

Q&A: My Client Wants Fireworks at Their Wedding. What do I do?
As a wedding planner you probably get a lot a strange, different, or interesting requests from your couples. But what happens when they request something that may be illegal? I have seen this several times, and with the summer comes the request for Fireworks. Yes, fireworks are to summer as rain is to Seattle. People look forward to the big firework displays around the area. Being from Georgia where you can buy fireworks literally anywhere and everywhere I have ceased caring about seeing a big firework display or really any firework display. I mean we would just shoot them off in our backyard whenever we wanted to see fireworks, looking…

Wedding Vendors: Are You In Breach?
As a wedding vendor you are probably wondering what is going on with other vendors these days. You can’t help but see the reports of wedding vendors being charged with fraud or sued by couples for not following through on what they promised. What is the deal? Breach of contract is one of the biggest issues that wedding vendors face. There isn’t just one type of breach of contract, there are four. Anticipatory Breach This type of breach happens when a vendor gives advanced notice that they won’t being honoring the contract. A great example of this is an article I just read about a bride in India whose venue…

What Can Be Learned From Alfred Angelo Closing?
If you haven’t heard Alfred Angelo the bridal salon has gone out of business and filed for bankruptcy. The location here in the Seattle area, Tukwila to be exact, abruptly closed its doors. Brides were lined up outside the store trying to get their dresses that were in while others were hoping to find out what happens to the dresses that were not in yet. Even the employees had no idea that the store was closing. Unfortunately this isn’t the first time that something like this has happened and it will not be the last. What these brides really want to know is what can be done? The short answer:…

From Hobby to Business
I make my love of helping small businesses, entrepreneurs, and solopreneurs pretty well known. That is why I also enjoy helping wedding vendors. Most wedding vendors fit in one of the above categories, but they don’t always seem to know that. I meet several vendors that are still treating their business as a hobby. Now there is nothing wrong with a hobby but when you have transitioned that hobby into something that is going to be making you money there are some issues that should be taken care of. Here are 3 tips on to go from hobby to business: Decide if you are going to incorporate. By that I…

The Importance of a Wedding Cake Contract
We’ve all seen it on People’s Court or Judge Judy or read about it on some news website; a bride suing the caterer, DJ, florist from their wedding. The vegetarian entrée was forgotten, the flowers were dying, or they forgot to play the predetermined songs at the predetermined times. In these cases the brides win some and they lose some. So how do you end up on the win side if something like this happens to you? You get it in writing. One of the major issues that results in these types of lawsuits is that the happy couple didn’t get everything in writing. Your cousin’s neighbor has a cake…
