Wedding Photographer Deletes Pictures After Being Denied Food.
I admit when I saw the headline my first thought was “that was petty.” Then I read the whole story… well my thoughts didn’t change much but it did give some context and there is a lot here. Basically a friend of the couple who is not a professional wedding photographer agreed to take pictures at their friends’ wedding for $250. Apparently this was a 10+ hour event in the heat and the photographer friend asked for food and water and the couple said “NO!” So the friend photographer erased all the pictures they had taken. Ouch. I mean are these people really that great of friends? How do you…

Wedding Shows: Why You Won’t Find The PreNup Princess or Seattle Wedding Lawyer There
5 or so years ago I was invited to participate in a wedding show. As the Seattle Wedding Lawyer and PreNup Princess I have often been invited but just had never done it. This was going to be a small event and I knew the coordinator so I figured now would as good a time as any to give it a try. I always turned down the invites in the past because while what I do focuses on weddings, it is not wedding show material. No one wants to think about wedding contracts, finances, divorce at a wedding show. But, maybe, just maybe I was wrong so off I went.…

Changing Your Name After Marriage. FAQ.
Do I have to change my name after marriage? Even though we are 2019 I still get this question constantly. For some reason people, especially women, are under the impression that they MUST change their name after marriage. Yes, this has been the custom for a really long time but it is not legally required. Is there a time limit in which to change my name? There is no time limit. Some wait years before they actually get around to changing their name. What you do want to do is be sure that if you start using your new name you will want to make sure that you get the…

A Bachelorette’s Mistake: Engagement Shouldn’t be the Goal
I don’t watch The Bachelorette or The Bachelor. And by don’t watch I mean I’ve never seen a single episode. The closet I’ve come is being stuck in a one light town for a conference one summer and I watched an episode of The Bachelor Pad. Needless to say I didn’t know who those people were or what exactly was going on. Now I do watch Unreal. That show I like but I’m pretty sure The Bachelor and The Bachelorette are not like that. What I do know about The Bachelorette is that there are roses, back to back make out sessions, and really really fast engagements. From what I…

What Can Be Learned From Alfred Angelo Closing?
If you haven’t heard Alfred Angelo the bridal salon has gone out of business and filed for bankruptcy. The location here in the Seattle area, Tukwila to be exact, abruptly closed its doors. Brides were lined up outside the store trying to get their dresses that were in while others were hoping to find out what happens to the dresses that were not in yet. Even the employees had no idea that the store was closing. Unfortunately this isn’t the first time that something like this has happened and it will not be the last. What these brides really want to know is what can be done? The short answer:…

Wedding Season Ends But Engagements Keep Coming
With summer slowly starting to die down that also means that wedding season is also coming to end. But don’t fret my pet. Just because wedding season is winding down that does not mean weddings themselves are stopping. I can personally attest to this with the number of friends and colleagues that have become engaged. I’ve been to engagement parties, dinners, and witnessed countless Facebook engagement posts. With the engagement comes a barrage of wedding law related questions. They all boil down two topics actually; prenups and wedding contracts. If you don’t already know my stance on prenups then you are not following my blog (www.prenupprincess.com) or following me…

Are you legally required to change your last name once you get remarried?
I recently had a childhood friend text me asking if she could ask me a legal question. That’s a common request as a lawyer, all your friends need legal advice. So I told her “sure, but I may not know the answer.” Her question was whether her fiancé’s ex-wife had to legally change her last name since she was now remarried. That I did know the answer to. Women have traditionally changed their last names when they get married. It’s just the way it is. There are plenty of reasons why they do and why they don’t. I won’t go into them. But I will say it is not a…

The Importance of a Wedding Cake Contract
We’ve all seen it on People’s Court or Judge Judy or read about it on some news website; a bride suing the caterer, DJ, florist from their wedding. The vegetarian entrée was forgotten, the flowers were dying, or they forgot to play the predetermined songs at the predetermined times. In these cases the brides win some and they lose some. So how do you end up on the win side if something like this happens to you? You get it in writing. One of the major issues that results in these types of lawsuits is that the happy couple didn’t get everything in writing. Your cousin’s neighbor has a cake…
